[email protected]Any IP camera that supports RTSP streaming will work. We recommend Amcrest, Reolink, and TP-Link Tapo cameras. See our camera recommendations for specific models and setup instructions.
Each camera brand has a different RTSP URL format. Common formats:
rtsp://IP:554/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=0rtsp://IP:554/h264Preview_01_mainrtsp://IP:554/stream1rtsp://IP/ch0rtsp://IP:554/videoMainReplace IP with your camera's IP address. Most cameras require a username and password, which you set up in the camera's own app.
Hush Monitor includes a network scanner that can discover cameras on your WiFi. Tap the "+" button and then "Scan Network" to find cameras automatically. You can also check your router's admin page for connected devices.
Smart Mute continuously monitors the audio level from your camera. When the sound is below your set threshold (e.g., white noise machine), the audio is silenced. When a louder sound is detected (e.g., baby crying), audio automatically turns on so you can hear it. The audio level is always being measured, even when muted.
Start with the default of -30 dB. Watch the audio meter while the room is quiet (just the sound machine running) and set the threshold just above that level. For most setups, somewhere between -40 dB and -25 dB works well. You can adjust in real-time while viewing the audio meter.
Make sure the audio connection indicator (small dot next to the dB reading) is green. If it's red, the audio engine hasn't connected yet. Try tapping "Retry" to reconnect. Also verify your camera's RTSP stream includes audio (some cameras have audio disabled by default).
RTSP streaming over WiFi can be affected by signal strength. Try moving your phone or camera closer to your router. Hush uses RTSP over TCP for reliability, which helps with packet loss but can add slight latency. For most nursery setups, you should see under 1 second of delay.
Check your camera's WiFi signal strength. If the camera is far from your router, consider adding a WiFi extender. Also make sure your camera's firmware is up to date. Hush will automatically reconnect if the stream drops.
Hush connects directly to cameras on your local WiFi network. It does not work over cellular or from outside your home by default. If you need remote access, you would need to set up a VPN to your home network (such as Tailscale or WireGuard).
Yes. Hush maintains audio monitoring in the background so you can hear your baby even when using other apps. Video streaming pauses when the app is backgrounded to save battery.
No. Hush is a live monitoring app. It does not record or store any video or audio. Sleep tracking data (sleep/wake times) is stored locally on your device.
No. All video, audio, and data stays on your local network and device. Hush does not operate any cloud servers. See our Privacy Policy for details.
